A solemn procession took place Tuesday as a group of Indigenous motorcyclists honored a young life lost.
Riders gathered in Rapid City to escort 9-week-old Melinko Bagola back to Pine Ridge, where the child will be laid to rest. The effort was organized by Medicine Wheel Ride, with support from community members and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Organizers say the escort was meant to bring the infant home with dignity and show support for grieving families across the region.
Meanwhile, Rapid City police continue to investigate the case. Authorities say the child’s father has been arrested and faces charges including second-degree murder.
Community members say the turnout reflects the deep impact of the tragedy, as people from across the area came together in remembrance.
