Rapid City police are investigating a vehicle burglary that resulted in a stolen firearm.
Officers were called around 8:20 Friday morning to the 2200 block of Philadelphia Street, where a resident reported their pickup truck had been broken into. Police say a loaded firearm was taken from inside the vehicle, and there were no signs of forced entry.
Authorities are reminding the public that vehicles are not secure places to store firearms. So far this year, ten guns have been stolen from vehicles in Rapid City.
Police stress that responsible gun ownership means keeping firearms secured and accounted for at all times, and not leaving them unattended in your vehicle.
