Police investigating an early morning report of gunfire made a second arrest nearby after spotting a suspicious individual fleeing the area.
Officers say a male wearing a ski mask and dark clothing was seen running through a parking lot on East Knollwood Drive while reaching toward his waistband. As officers began to approach, a gunshot was heard from the area where the suspect was located.
Police issued multiple commands for the man to show his hands, but he continued to resist and reach toward his waistband before being taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Jaycias Flyinghorse of Rapid City. Officers reported detecting the smell of alcohol, and a total of three firearms were recovered from his person—one of which was confirmed to be stolen.
Flyinghorse was arrested on multiple charges, including obstruction, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, underage consumption of alcohol, and carrying a loaded firearm while intoxicated. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
