Drivers across the Black Hills are being urged to plan as multiple construction projects and traffic changes are now underway.
In Rapid City, lane closures are in effect along Fifth Street as crews connect a storm sewer line. Work is taking place between Regional Way and areas south, with traffic reduced to one lane and pedestrians routed to the opposite side of the street. Drivers should expect delays, especially with bus stops located near the construction zone. The project is expected to wrap up in early June.
Additional work is also underway on Luna Avenue, where crews are installing a new storm sewer line and building a concrete entrance. Traffic there is reduced to two lanes in each direction, with construction expected to continue through mid-June.
Meanwhile, in Spearfish, drivers will notice new, lower speed limits now in effect. Portions of North Avenue and East Colorado Boulevard have been reduced from 35 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour, with updated signage installed. Officials say the changes are aimed at improving safety.
On Interstate 90 near Wasta, construction continues on the Bull Creek bridge replacement project. Crews are working on bridge structures, grading, and surfacing improvements, with major work scheduled through June and paving expected later this summer.
Transportation officials remind drivers to slow down in work zones, stay alert, and allow extra time as construction activity increases across the region.
