Police in Rapid City arrested a 19-year-old man Saturday evening after an alleged assault involving a weapon at a local liquor store.
Authorities say officers were called to a business on North Lacrosse Street around 5:15 p.m. on June 14th. Reports indicated a male suspect had entered the store, grabbed alcohol, and told employees he did not intend to pay.
According to police, the suspect then threw a liquor bottle at an employee and began threatening people inside the store with a knife.
When officers arrived, they found bystanders had already subdued the suspect and were holding him on the ground. Police took the individual into custody without further incident.
He has been identified as 19-year-old Destin Rencountre of Rapid City. Officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol.
Witnesses told authorities that an employee and a customer worked together to disarm the suspect and restrain him until police arrived.
Rencountre now faces multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, as well as simple assault and underage consumption of alcohol. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
No serious injuries have been reported.
