Police in Rapid City arrested a 35-year-old man after a DUI-related, low-speed pursuit Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say officers were called around 3:50 p.m. on June 21st to a home on Crescent Drive, where a man was reportedly sitting in an SUV and inhaling air duster. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle in the driveway and attempted to block it in.
The driver, identified as Miles Makesgood of Rapid City, drove around patrol units and fled, leading officers on a slow-speed pursuit through the Star Village area. During the chase, the vehicle drove through a yard on East Signal Drive.
Police were eventually able to deploy spike strips near East Boulevard and Quincy Street, disabling the vehicle. The SUV continued a short distance before stopping back in the Star Village neighborhood.
Makesgood exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers say they found a can of air duster on him, and he was determined to be too impaired to safely operate a vehicle.
He was arrested and booked into the Pennington County Jail on multiple charges, including DUI second offense, reckless driving, eluding police, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under suspension, and possession of an altered or revoked driver’s license, along with ingesting a substance to become intoxicated.
No injuries were reported.
