Three businesses in Pennington County have been cited after allegedly selling alcohol to an underage informant during recent compliance checks.
According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies inspected ten establishments on June third. Seven of those businesses passed, while three were found to be in violation.
The businesses cited include Hart Ranch Golf Course, Hart Ranch Camping Resort, and Rockerville Lodge and Cabins General Store.
Authorities say employees at those locations allegedly sold alcohol to a person between the ages of 18 and 20, which is illegal under South Dakota law.
Officials note that selling alcohol to someone underage is a Class Two misdemeanor, carrying penalties of up to 30 days in jail and a 500-dollar fine. Businesses may also face additional penalties, including fines or possible impacts to their alcohol licenses if violations continue.
The sheriff’s office says compliance checks like these are conducted regularly to ensure businesses are following the law.
As with all cases, the citations are considered allegations, and those involved are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
