Rapid City officials are asking residents and visitors to plan ahead as parking and traffic changes go into effect for the Real America Birthday Bash celebration.
The event runs July 1st through the 5th and includes a parade, concerts, a drone show, and fireworks in downtown Rapid City and Memorial Park.
Several street closures will begin July 2nd, including Sixth Street between Omaha and Main, which will remain closed through July 4th. Portions of Main Street will also close in the evenings on July 3rd and 4th.
Free downtown parking will be available July 2nd through the 4th, with overflow parking at The Monument and designated ADA parking at the downtown ramp and bocce complex.
For the July 2nd parade, no parking will be allowed along the route after 5 p.m., with the parade stepping off at 7 p.m.
Officials expect heavy traffic throughout the celebration and are encouraging the public to arrive early, allow extra travel time, and use caution in event areas.
