The Spearfish Sasquatch rolled to an 11–1 victory over the Capital City Aviators on Monday night at Black Hills Energy Stadium, thanks in large part to a big night from the bottom of the lineup. Kendrick Aragon, Aiden Meverden, and JJ Manuel combined for five of Spearfish’s 10 hits, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Spearfish native Meverden was awarded player of the game.
Cleanup hitter Carter Towns showed patience at the plate, drawing three walks in five trips. The Sasquatch struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning after Malakai Lopez walked; Wilson Kieffer was hit by a pitch, and Manuel lifted a sacrifice fly. Kieffer added another run in the third with a groundout to make it 4–0.
Spearfish’s pitching staff dominated throughout. Mac Hibben earned the win, allowing two hits and no runs over two innings with four strikeouts. Starter Joseph Cook opened the game with two hitless innings, and relievers Conner Brown, Caleb Hoppe and Evan Hesse each tossed scoreless frames. Capital City starter Austin Zapach took the loss, giving up six runs on four hits and five walks in just over three innings.
Manuel led Spearfish with three hits, while Kieffer drove in three runs. Lopez added two hits, and the Sasquatch showed discipline at the plate with 10 walks, including three each from Towns and Maddox Morrison. Spearfish also turned a double play defensively.
For Capital City, Sam Fassbender drove in the team’s lone run and went 2‑for‑3, matching teammate Ryan Deveraux with two hits.
The Sasquatch (20-6) and Aviators meet again on today in Spearfish as the homestand continues throughout the 4th of July week. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
