Rapid City police say an 18-year-old woman is in jail following a reckless driving incident involving a juvenile runaway and damage to police property.
Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Atlas Street shortly before 12:40 Saturday afternoon following a report that a juvenile runaway was inside a vehicle. When officers located the vehicle in a parking lot and attempted to contact the driver, police say the driver accelerated away, cutting through a nearby yard.
Authorities later found the vehicle in an alley between North 7th Street and Northeast Drive. According to police, the driver traveled through the alley at a high rate of speed before striking a patrol vehicle, then continued through a fence and into the backyard of a residence.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Josiah Hornbeck of Rapid City, allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers apprehended Hornbeck a short time later. The juvenile runaway was located safely and was not injured.
Hornbeck was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving, felony vandalism, misdemeanor vandalism, obstruction, underage consumption of alcohol, an outstanding warrant, and a probation hold. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
