The Sturgis City Council has approved a new transportation safety plan designed to improve roadway safety throughout the community.
The Safe Streets and Roads for All Safety Action Plan was developed in partnership with J.E.O. Consulting Group and provides a data-driven roadmap for future safety improvements. City officials say adopting the plan does not authorize any immediate construction projects or spending, but it could help Sturgis compete for future transportation safety grants and outside funding.
Council members also approved a resolution involving a small parcel of city-owned property near the Exit 32 recycling center. The agreement gives a lessee the option to pursue a future wireless communications facility at the site.
City officials emphasized that the approval does not authorize construction of a cell tower. Any future project would still need to go through the city’s normal zoning, permitting, public hearing, and council approval processes before moving forward.
