Public safety agencies in South Dakota and Wyoming are urging drivers and motorcyclists to stay alert as traffic increases ahead of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Belle Fourche Police say a surge in motorcycle traffic is expected in the coming days. Officials are reminding drivers to check blind spots, look twice at intersections, and give riders extra room on the road.
Wyoming recorded 247 motorcycle crashes and 17 fatalities last year. State officials also report that nearly 58 percent of motorcycle deaths between 2020 and 2024 involved riders not wearing helmets.
Authorities say increased awareness and safe driving habits can help prevent crashes during the annual rally.
