A woman accused of stealing more than 100 thousand dollars from the Oglala Sioux Tribe’s Emergency Youth Shelter has pleaded not guilty in federal court.
Tracie Renay Gallego entered the plea Thursday on 17 federal charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, larceny, embezzlement, and theft from an Indian tribal organization.
According to investigators, Gallego is accused of depositing reimbursement checks totaling more than $100,000 into her personal bank account.
Gallego was released pending further court proceedings. A date for her next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
A co-defendant in the case, Patrick Fire Thunder, also pleaded not guilty earlier this week to similar charges.
