Rapid City’s Downtown Ambassadors are helping thousands of visitors navigate the city while also contributing to a safer and more welcoming downtown environment.
The ambassador program, funded by the City of Rapid City and managed by Visit Rapid City, operates daily from early May through September. Ambassadors are stationed downtown from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing maps, directions, restaurant recommendations, event information, and guidance on local attractions.
According to city officials, the ambassadors assisted more than 18,300 visitors between May 11 and July 16th.
Mayor Jason Salamun says the program helps create a positive first impression for tourists while also serving as an extra set of eyes downtown. Ambassadors report concerns to law enforcement, businesses, and city staff when needed.
Visit Rapid City CEO Ally Formanek says the partnership encourages visitors to spend more time exploring downtown shops, restaurants, and attractions, helping support the local economy.
The Downtown Ambassador program will continue operating through September.
