A 23-year-old Box Elder man has been arrested on attempted murder charges following an early morning shooting in Rapid City.
Police were dispatched around 3:10 a.m. Sunday to the area of Van Buren Street and Dilger Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find an adult male victim walking in the roadway with a gunshot wound.
Police administered emergency first aid until medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to a hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, officers developed information linking the shooting to a residence in the 700 block of North Seventh Street. Several individuals were detained at the location, including Mario Moran of Box Elder.
Authorities say Moran was initially arrested for possession of a controlled substance after officers allegedly found methamphetamine in his possession. Following witness interviews, investigators determined Moran was the suspected shooter and subsequently arrested him on a charge of attempted murder.
The victim’s condition has not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
