U.S. Senator Mike Rounds has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, a congressional panel that provides independent oversight and recommendations on academy operations.
Rounds said he is honored to join the board, noting that one of the most rewarding parts of his job as a senator is nominating South Dakota students to attend the nation’s military service academies.
The senator said those students represent some of the country’s best and brightest young people and emphasized the importance of ensuring cadets receive a high-quality education that prepares them for military service and leadership roles.
Established in 1956, the Board of Visitors reviews issues affecting the academy, including academic programs, discipline, morale, facilities and fiscal management. The board works with academy leaders and the Department of the Air Force to help prepare future officers for service in the U.S. Air Force and Space Force.
