Monument Health says it’s entering this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with more care locations than ever before, expanding access to medical services across the region as hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive in the Black Hills.
The health system has added three care sites in the Rapid City area over the past year, including the Monument Health Emergency Services and Medical Campus at Mall Drive. The facility is serving its first Rally season and provides 24-hour emergency care along the Interstate 90 corridor.
Officials say the new location offers an additional option for emergency treatment without requiring patients to travel directly to Rapid City Hospital.
Monument Health’s Rapid Valley Clinic and Box Elder Clinic are also available during the Rally, providing urgent and primary care services for non-emergency medical needs.
Starting August 8th, Monument Health will resume its Daily Motorcycle Rally Tally, tracking Rally-related emergency room visits and hospitalizations at facilities in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Rapid City, Spearfish, and Sturgis. The report will be updated each morning through August 16th.
Health officials say preparations for the Rally begin as much as a year in advance and involve coordination with local, regional, and state partners.
The Christian Motorcycle Association will once again provide volunteer support during the event, assisting injured riders and their families with transportation, lodging, recovery of personal belongings, and other needs.
Monument Health officials say extensive planning is required each year to meet the increased demand for emergency and medical care during one of western South Dakota’s largest annual events.
