An 18-year-old Wall woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash south of Scenic Monday morning.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Kristina Yellowhawk, 18, of Wall, who died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of Bombing Range Road and Sheep Mountain Road, about four-and-a-half miles south of Scenic.
According to preliminary information, Yellowhawk was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala north on Bombing Range Road when the vehicle left the roadway. Investigators say she attempted to correct the vehicle’s path but lost control, causing the car to roll over.
A passenger in the vehicle, Patrick Little Moon Jr., 19, of Pierre, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Rapid City hospital.
Authorities say neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
