A 38-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison in a child exploitation case.
Federal officials say Jackson Moss of Rapid City was sentenced August 3rd by U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler after pleading guilty to receiving illegal child exploitation material.
According to court records, investigators found Moss had used online messaging and cloud services to obtain and view the material between June and December of 2024. The investigation was launched after multiple cyber tips were received by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Authorities later recovered hundreds of illegal images and videos from Moss’s cellphone.
In addition to his prison sentence, Moss will serve five years of supervised release, pay more than $15,000 in restitution, and forfeit several cell phones.
The case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, along with the Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Moss was taken into custody immediately following sentencing.
