The City of Sturgis has officially named Bryson Kool as the new director of the Sturgis Ambulance Service.
Kool had been serving as interim director since June following the resignation of former director Aden Schillig, and the Sturgis City Council has now appointed him to the position permanently.
According to the city, Kool has been a member of the Sturgis Ambulance Service since October of 2021 and has played a key role in daily operations, staffing, scheduling, payroll, and the department’s electronic patient care reporting system.
As a paramedic and shift supervisor, Kool oversees emergency medical operations and is experienced in advanced life support procedures, including cardiac monitoring, airway management, IV therapy, and medication administration. He also helps train new EMTs and paramedics and serves as an instructor for several emergency medical certification programs.
Former director Aden Schillig resigned after one year in the position to pursue another opportunity in emergency medical services. In his resignation letter, Schillig praised Kool’s leadership and said the department has a strong foundation for continued growth.
City Administrator Aaron Jordan thanked Schillig for his service and contributions, noting his work helped strengthen billing processes, clinical protocols, and training programs within the ambulance service.
Kool says the department will continue building on the progress made over the past year to provide high-quality emergency medical care to the Sturgis community.
The Sturgis Ambulance Service now moves forward under Kool’s leadership as its permanent director.
