The Black Hills National Forest is looking for residents who want a say in the future of public lands across the region.
The Forest Service is accepting applications for its Resource Advisory Committee, a 15-member group that helps recommend projects aimed at improving public lands and natural resources in Pennington, Lawrence and Custer counties.
Projects can focus on a variety of issues, including wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, watersheds, forests and other natural resource needs.
Officials say they are seeking a diverse group of applicants, including local elected leaders, teachers, tribal representatives, hunters, recreation groups, environmental advocates, business and timber industry representatives, and members of the general public.
Committee members serve four-year terms and typically meet between one and four times per year. The positions are unpaid, but travel expenses may be reimbursed.
Applications are due September 11th. Applicants must be South Dakota residents, with preference given to those living in Pennington, Lawrence or Custer counties.
