RAPID CITY, S.D. – Visitors heading to this year’s Central States Fair can expect an increased law enforcement presence and enhanced security measures throughout the event.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Rapid City Police Department are once again partnering to help keep fairgrounds safe during the fair’s run from August 21st through August 29th.
Officials say an extensive network of security cameras will remain in place across the fairgrounds, with additional cameras and lighting added in parking areas this year through partnerships with Black Hills Energy and the City of Rapid City’s Public Works Division.
Law enforcement officers will patrol the fairgrounds throughout the event, while Rapid City Police patrol officers and members of the Street Crimes Unit will conduct regular patrols in parking areas.
Authorities say the goal is to provide a safe, family-friendly environment from the moment visitors arrive until they leave.
