WYOMING – Firefighters are battling a growing wildfire in far northern Campbell County near the Montana state line. The West Coal Creek Fire is currently estimated at about 350 acres, though officials say the actual size could be larger once detailed mapping is completed.
The fire is burning across a mix of private, state, and Bureau of Land Management lands near the borders of Sheridan County and Montana.
Local crews have established containment lines around the blaze, with Campbell County Road and Bridge personnel using heavy equipment to build fire breaks. Firefighters are also using direct and indirect attack methods to slow the fire’s spread.
Additional state and federal resources have been requested and are expected to join suppression efforts. Fire managers say hot, dry conditions across northeast Wyoming could increase fire activity and make containment more challenging in the days ahead.
