MEADE COUNTY, S.D. — Meade County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to back-to-school patrols were temporarily diverted this week after receiving reports of a naked man allegedly prowling vehicles along Tilford Road.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were preparing to welcome students at Black Hawk Elementary School when the call came in regarding a nude individual reportedly walking down the roadway and going through parked vehicles.
Officials said the incident serves as a reminder of the many demands placed on law enforcement as students return to school. While deputies work to monitor school zones and help ensure the safety of children crossing busy roads, they must also respond to criminal activity and emergency calls throughout the county.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging motorists to do their part by remaining alert in school zones, obeying posted speed limits, and watching for students traveling to and from school.
Authorities noted that incidents such as the reported car prowling case can pull resources away from school patrols, making community awareness and safe driving practices especially important during the back-to-school season.
