PIERRE, S.D. – A Pierre woman has been sentenced after admitting to defrauding South Dakota’s Medicaid program of more than $588,000 in federal and state funds.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 49-year-old Sharon Laraye Monson received a 10-year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to one felony count of Grand Theft. Monson, the former owner of At Home Nursing in Pierre, was accused of submitting false Medicaid claims between May 1, 2018, and January 1, 2024.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Monson will serve 10 years of probation and has been ordered to pay $500,000 in restitution to the South Dakota Department of Social Services.
Attorney General Jackley says protecting taxpayer dollars remains a priority and emphasized that Monson’s actions do not reflect the honesty and dedication of the vast majority of Medicaid providers in South Dakota.
The case was investigated and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud, Abuse and Neglect Services Unit.
