PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Transportation Commission has approved about $3.5 million in funding for 40 local bridge projects across the state.
The Commission awarded the funding at this week’s meeting in Pierre. SDDOT Secretary Joel Jundt says investments in roads and bridges help keep communities connected and improve traveler safety.
Out of 108 applications, funding was divided between two programs. About $2.08 million in federal highway funding was awarded to 12 bridge design projects, which will be included in the state’s 2027 to 2030 Transportation Improvement Program. Those projects include work in Meade County and several other communities across South Dakota.
Another $1.4 million was approved through the state’s Bridge Improvement Grant program for engineering, survey, and study work on 24 additional projects, including one in Butte County.
The next application deadline for Bridge Improvement Grant preservation and replacement funding is January 2nd, 2027.
