SHERIDAN, WY – Fire crews successfully stopped the advance of a wildfire near the Forks in Sheridan after it grew from about 10 acres to more than 100 acres over the weekend.
The Clearmont Fire District says crews responded Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of a possible fire from Padlock Ranch. Firefighters found the blaze burning in steep terrain as winds began to increase, making suppression efforts more challenging.
Additional crews joined the response and worked to secure portions of the fire, but a shift in the wind pushed the flames to the northeast.
Officials say Padlock Ranch personnel were able to extinguish active flames and halt the fire’s forward progress. Crews remained on scene overnight and continued monitoring for hot spots Monday morning.
Investigators have determined the fire was sparked by lightning.
