STURGIS, S.D. – The 20th annual Sturgis Mustang Rally is underway in the Black Hills, bringing Mustang enthusiasts from across the United States and around the world.
The five-day event officially kicked off Tuesday with the annual Mustang Brunch in downtown Spearfish, where Main Street was lined with classic and modern Ford Mustangs.
Event organizers say this year’s rally has set a record for pre-registrations, with participants traveling from as far away as Canada, Scotland and South Florida. What began as a small local gathering two decades ago has grown into an international event.
Activities throughout the week include driving schools, drifting demonstrations, burnouts and drag racing.
The rally’s signature Show & Shine takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in Sturgis, followed by drag racing competitions at Sturgis Dragway. Spectator admission for events on Main Street and at the Thunderdome is free.
Organizers say the event continues to be a major attraction for car enthusiasts while bringing visitors and tourism dollars to the Black Hills.
