LEAD, S.D. – The neighboring Black Hills communities of Lead and Deadwood marked a major milestone this weekend, celebrating their 150th anniversaries together with a series of shared events under the theme, “Two Communities, One Path.”
The celebration began with the inaugural Homestake Trail Volksmarch, a three-mile community walk connecting Lead and Deadwood along a historic railroad grade. Organizers say about 250 people participated in the first-year event, which highlighted the close ties between the two mining communities.
In Lead, festivities continued at Lead Park with the second annual Crafts at the Cut festival, featuring live music, a classic car show, family activities, local food vendors, and tastings from breweries across South Dakota.
