MADISON, S.D. — Madison took control early and never let up Friday night, defeating Belle Fourche 50-0 in a mercy-rule shortened game at Blankley Field.
After a lightning delay, the Bulldogs scored in every quarter through the third while holding the Broncs to just 94 total yards. Madison opened the scoring on a 24-yard touchdown run by Henry Veenhof and extended its lead with a safety and two touchdown passes from Veenhof in the second quarter.
A 62-yard punt return touchdown by Ethan Sims helped Madison build a 30-0 halftime advantage.
The Bulldogs added three more touchdowns in the third quarter, including a pair of scoring plays involving Kaysen Gust, before Malachi Ouverson capped the night with a 15-yard touchdown run that triggered the mercy rule.
Veenhof finished with 328 total yards, throwing for 233 yards and three touchdowns while adding 95 rushing yards and another score. Gust caught two touchdown passes and totaled 91 receiving yards.
Belle Fourche struggled offensively throughout the night, managing just 18 passing yards against a Madison defense that recorded two interceptions, both by Brody Finck.
The loss drops the Broncs to 0-3 on the season. Belle Fourche will host Hot Springs (0-3) on Friday for homecoming, with kickoff slated for 6:00 pm, as both teams look to secure their first win of the season.
