CUSTER, S.D. – The Custer Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire Sunday morning and successfully contained the blaze without any reported injuries.
Firefighters were dispatched just before 11:40 a.m. and found smoke and flames inside the home. The response included 12 firefighters and seven fire trucks, and officials reported that two apparatuses were on scene attacking the fire within nine minutes of the initial call.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours while extinguishing hotspots and securing the structure.
The department says no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a statement, Custer fire officials thanked numerous mutual aid partners who provided an additional 19 firefighters and support during the incident, helping crews bring the fire under control.
