CUSTER, S.D. – Thousands of visitors are expected to gather at Custer State Park on September 25th for the 61st Annual Governor’s Buffalo Roundup.
The event will bring together roughly 1,400 bison as park staff and horseback riders guide the herd into corrals for sorting, branding, and health inspections.
The roundup is part of the Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival, which runs September 24th through the 26th and celebrates South Dakota’s western heritage while supporting wildlife management efforts.
The tradition has been held since 1966 and remains one of the state’s most popular annual attractions.
