RAPID CITY, S.D. – Nonprofit leaders from across western South Dakota gathered in Rapid City Thursday for the South Dakota Community Foundation’s second annual Real Talk conference.
The event drew representatives from 76 nonprofit organizations to discuss challenges such as funding shortages, resource management, staffing, board development, and community outreach.
Organizers say the conference was created in response to reductions in federal funding that have left many nonprofits searching for new ways to sustain their missions.
South Dakota Community Foundation officials say the focus was on strengthening relationships with donors, media partners, and community supporters rather than simply seeking grants.
Former Governor Dennis Daugaard served as the keynote speaker. Organizers say the goal was to provide nonprofit leaders with practical tools and strategies to help their organizations continue serving South Dakota communities in the years ahead.
