CUSTER, S.D. – Thousands of hikers are expected to take part in the 14th Annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch on Sunday, September 27th at Crazy Horse Memorial.
The popular event gives participants the opportunity to hike a five- or ten-kilometer route to the arm of the world’s largest mountain carving in progress, offering an up-close view of the Crazy Horse Mountain Memorial.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., with hikers allowed to start the trail between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Admission to Crazy Horse Memorial will be waived for hikers who donate three cans of food, with all donations benefiting the KOTA Territory Care and Share Food Drive.
Organizers say the Volksmarch is one of the most popular organized hikes in the country, attracting thousands of participants each year. Hikers must be off the trail by 4 p.m., and pets are not permitted on the route.
