STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Municipal Airport is set to upgrade its fuel management system with new cloud-based technology aimed at improving efficiency, security, and reliability.
The Sturgis City Council approved the nearly $15,000 project Monday. The new system will allow airport staff to remotely monitor fuel sales, track inventory, adjust pricing, and review transactions through a web-based platform.
Public Works Director Rick Bush says the upgrade moves the airport away from older computer-dependent software and provides better protection against data loss caused by equipment failures or outdated systems.
Officials say the new platform will also allow employees to diagnose problems, install updates remotely, and identify inventory or communication issues before they become major concerns.
The project will be funded through the city’s capital improvement funds and is designed to strengthen a key airport service and revenue source.
