DEADWOOD, S.D. – Deadwood’s gaming industry had a strong August, with casino gaming handle increasing more than 10 percent compared to August of last year. The boost helped push total gaming activity for the first eight months of 2026 nearly 9 percent ahead of the same period in 2025.
Slot machines led the growth, posting an 11 percent increase, while table games dipped 3 percent and sports wagering fell nearly 47 percent. After more than 2 million dollars in free-play promotions, Deadwood casinos reported 16-point-1 million dollars in taxable gaming revenue, generating about 1-point-45 million dollars in gaming taxes.
Deadwood Gaming Association Director George Milos credited strong attendance at Kool Deadwood Nites and the community’s value as a visitor destination for helping drive the increase. The annual event attracts thousands of classic car enthusiasts and visitors to the Black Hills each year. Deadwood officials say the strong August numbers continue a solid year for gaming, tourism, and local tax revenue.
