RAPID CITY, S.D. – Visitors planning to use Pactola Reservoir will need to make alternate arrangements beginning next week as a long-term closure takes effect at one of the lake’s primary access points.
The Black Hills National Forest says the Pactola North Boat Ramp, located about 15 miles west of Rapid City, will close at 5 p.m. on October 5. The closure is expected to remain in place through January 31, 2027, while construction projects are completed in the area.
Forest officials say heavy equipment and active work zones create safety concerns for visitors, making a full closure necessary. Signs and maps will be posted near the area to help inform the public about the restrictions and available access options.
The Forest Service says it will reopen the boat ramp as soon as construction is finished and conditions are safe for public use.
For additional information, visitors can contact the Black Hills National Forest or visit the agency’s website.
