RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for breaking into a woman’s home, assaulting her and threatening to kill her.
Thirty-five-year-old Francis Brewer was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in June to first-degree burglary and aggravated assault stemming from a November 2024 attack.
According to court records, Brewer forced his way into the victim’s home and physically assaulted her. The victim told the court she feared for her life as Brewer threatened to kill her during the attack. She was eventually able to escape after activating the panic button on her car key, creating an opportunity to flee and get help.
During sentencing, prosecutors asked the court to impose a 30-year prison term, citing Brewer’s criminal history, which includes three prior felony convictions. Because of his habitual offender status, Brewer faced the possibility of a life sentence.
Seventh Circuit Judge Stacy Wickre agreed with the prosecution’s recommendation and sentenced Brewer to a total of 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors described the crimes as severe and life-changing for the victim, who said she hopes to move forward with her life without living in fear.
